Never gonna happen. Pretty much all politicians in the United States are bought and owned by corporate interest groups. And they're not out to help the average guy live a decent life. They're not gonna stop until they've destroyed the labour unions completely so they can bring our wages down even more. The minimum wage is already a joke but don't worry man, the day we're making just as much as a bangladeshi guy they'll be happy. That way they don't have to move factories to the far east, They can just build them right here in the massive suburban poverty stricken areas of the united states. Then We'll be making iPhones at sh.it wages for the rich easterners! Yeehow! America Number 1?!.......... No?

It's a sad world. If every country could just agree on laws that would secure a decent wage for everyone this sh.it wouldn't be going on.

I hate to break it to you, but if the most you can do with your life after being given a free education and a ton of opportunities is to stand there and weld metal or screw parts together, and if THAT is the absolute pinnacle of what you want to contribute to society, then perhaps "a decent life" isn't what you deserve. Until you can convince me that some guy who attaches windows to a car should make 3x the salary of a schoolteacher, social worker, drug counselor, or farmer AND get a pension which pays them 6 figures for life, I will never EVER buy that argument.

I really hope they put a graphics card in it (even 64MB) and an 802.11N capable wifi card.

hmm... but shouldn't they wait until 802.11n becomes more than just a draft of a format?

and when is the apple product spree going to end!?!?!?!

I don't mean to sound dumb, well to be honest I can't help it :p

But just how much space is this time machine going to eat up?

If it stores a backup of everything, that's going to get huge in a hurry. For example. What happens if I have a 400 MB video file and I make 20 changes, and save the file after every change.

I could see this growing to be a storage monster if it keeps every iteration of everything that I do. That 400 MB video would take up 8GB in my time machine, with 20 copies of it. Do that 100 times over a couple of years and that just gets nuts

Is it only going to store the actual changes and not the whole file again? This is making my head spin, could someone explain how it's going to store backups physically? I know it's not even out yet, but I figure that one of you really smart people already know how this will work. (You're all smarter than me hehe)

    Thanks in advance :)

Microsoft has never, does not, and will never make a product with nearly a quarter of the 'cool' factor that Apple does. Microsoft may be the empresarios' top choice, but is dated, dull, dumb. Apple is innovative, young, and sexy.

"We are Apple. We have great products that work out of the box. Our technological distinctiveness will be adopted free of will by all. Resistance is not necessary: you're amazed at us."

I don't think that they're in any danger of that. This was a sneak peek. It was not a Beta Release, it is not a "features complete" release. Come January, if there aren't major improvements, then I think what you're suggesting could be discussed further. Until then, it's not fair to say that Leopard isn't going to be a success. We simply don't know enough about the final version to make any level of educated statement in that regard.

The only problem with that is from a business standpoint, Apple needed to come out and shine. In previous releases, Win XP was just a stagnant operating system, so OS X always looked light years ahead.

The deal now is that Apple is on a head to head collision course with Microsoft as to whose OS grabs the consumer. I just think Apple had a huge opportunity to get the Mac Community excited or would be Mac users excited and to completely outshine Vista, and they didn't reach nearly as high as they should have.

I have no question in my mind that Leopard will be amazing, it will have a number of great new features, it will be fast, etc... but Apple had tons of amazing products in the mid-1990s that were poorly executed and died before they ever got off the ground. These products died from a business end, not a technological end.

I realize that some people want X, Y, Z now! For myself, I can wait for new hardwareprobably until iPhone 6 (or 5 if the next one is 4G)as I like to get several years of use out of it. Heck, I just decommissioned my iBook G4 last year. What Im excited to see is what iOS 5 will bring. This is how Apple will have dominance over Android phones.

As for waiting ~ 3 more months, while Im not a blind Apple lap dog, I have a certain amount of faith that they know what theyre doing. I think that Steve, the master of shrewd and manipulation, has taught his disciples well.

:D Incredible. But not at all surprising from those who confuse the Declaration of Independence with the Constitution.

Finally beat the game with a buddy online. My opinion: story blows. Oh no, another so very mellow suicide attempt to help the group. There was no emotion to the deaths of the members. It just happened, and we moved on, forgot about it, and press another random button or find ourselves at another random location after the last level. I just fell from the sky into the mountains....now I have walked to the nearest city, where my team happens to be..... Also last level just does not work with the rest of the games damage characteristics.

As far as gameplay, just another Halo, much better for multiplayer. I think all previous Halo multiplayer maps should be added.

How comes Walmart control so much of the US retail market, yet everyone here hates them and refuses to shop there? They might not be ethical, they might bully suppliers, they might put small stores out of business but they keep prices down and everyone wants to pay less for everything.

Its similar with Tesco in the UK, they might not be as dominant as Walmart in the US but they aren't that far off it. The subject that normally comes up in the UK is the prices the supermarkets pay to farmers. Everyone says its shocking and that they are bullying the farmers, yet everyone is more than happy to pay less and less for farm produce.

I don't see how what Walmart does or says about this really matters. They ain't going to stop selling dvds as they won't want to lose the profit, if it gets to the point where they're not making enough profit they will just drop them on the spot. More likely is that they will use it as a bargaining chip to get better prices on dvds so they can increase profits further.

I can't see it being an issue in the UK, or the rest of the EU. The monopoly and competition rules of the EU are pretty strict and they don't give a damn how big the company is - Bill Gates will testify to this, I think Microsoft had been fined about $500million the last time I checked for breaking the rules on competition.

Last time I checked iPods and batteries aren't much of a renewable resource. Throw in a spanish-english dictionary with either voice recognition or the ability to spell out the word to find the meaning and I am there.

And add the ability to make voice notes in the margins, and highlight text.

If this is true, it will probably be the end of buying books for me. Imagine the trees saved, the gas and space saved in moving vans. The empty spaces in shopping malls and big block shopping centers.

"What's a book mommy?" "Well, It was like an iPod, but made out of trees"

I agree. This seems a risky way to deal with a hardware defect. My first macbook had RSS, and apple exchanged it for a new one with me. If this one started doing it I'd be very worried - firmware update or no.

Yup. The way to properly handle the problem is to replace the MoBo's. I don't want to start a "this update will make your laptop overheat" rumor, but I'm pretty certain that they are trying to bypass the root defect.

    That's funny.

I would've returned the wife before the iPad. Those are easier to find.

no kidding, I didn't have to wait in a line for 13 hours to get the chance to buy a wife, just for her dad to tell me sorry she's sold out and to try again tomorrow.

Steve looks unhealthy. He's not as sharp as he used to be. His keynotes were flawless. He stuttered several times, forgot what he was saying in mid sentence, and handed a considerable amount of the keynote to other people. Steve was a control freak in past WWDC keynotes.

I think he may be in not-so-good health. But I've said that before.

He was probably up all night worried about how Apple has to restate their earnings. And Stevo is a big part of the SEC's probe.

he clear implication of this is that we need to act under licence from your chief god in order not to be "self-glorifying", which is patent nonsense. This differentiation between human altruism and divinely-sanctioned altruism is nothing but artifice: what is the real difference?

Thanks for clarifying, now I better understand what you are getting at and what you are asking. I would say that it's not a matter of being "licensed to act" as much as it's a recognition of your relationship to God and the rest of his creation. We don't need God's permission to act, that is what free will is all about. However, your understanding of how the world works and your motivation for action is either rooted in your faith in God or your faith in what is man made, which could include faith in religious tradition, or faith in principles/morals/ethics.

Basically, what we are talking about is an individual's worldview and how that worldview impacts their motivations in life.

Which is probably what they thought when they were designing the first SLRs.
Until someone had the brainwave of sticking in an extra lens element to accommodate the mirror.

Staying away from the traditional rangefinder lens deign did not make the lens thinner, it just allowed the extra room to clear out the mirror swing but the les had to get bigger and protrude more. It is like saying "no need to make the phone thicker, just make the lens stck out!" which obviously isn't really an attractive solution - it was done one a few years ago and didn't fare all that well.
