Excellent news, glad to see Apple isn't too far behind the times, nor were they going to do something silly like make us wait for Santa Rosa in the MBPs before updating the MacBook line. ;)
My wife will be thrilled, she's been holding off a purchase until the MacBook line got upgraded. Now that they will be out we can test drive one, make sure it meets her needs and we'll have a nice addition to our family. ;)

iPad 3 - iPad 3D
I could really see that, with the iPhone 3G (it was actually the 3rd phone) and had 3G.
iPhone 3G was the 2nd phone.
Edit: Damn, Andronicus beat me to the punch!

Hard drives would not be good AT ALL for an iPod Touch. Apps depend on the instant access that flash memory allows for using data, so a hard drive would slow the whole process up, especially on the processor size.
I agree. I don't think iOS is designed with hard drives in mind anyway. Probably wouldn't work properly.

Thanks, I live in the UK so should be able to find it locally.

I was going to buy one but Amazon had it for $200. I ordered a lava lamp for $20 instead. I think I'll have a pic of my set up next month. I should have my iPad by November.

I totally agree. However, the 4.x was sold as a viable update to my phone, and my older iPod Touch was upgraded automatically. Had I known it would have rendered them quite useless, I would have not agreed to the upgrade. Also, there is no way (that I can tell) to downgrade to a previous IOS (I'm not overly geeky). I am not asking for on-going support, rather that the phone that I paid for works for its lifetime. It is Apple's fault for not providing a reasonable explanation of what the consequences would be or providing an alternative to that IOS.
I agree and appreciate your even measured approach. If the device won't really work with the upgrade, then don't include it.
And let's all be reasonable that a 2+ year old device not being supported shouldn't be a surprise. Tech moves forward very fast. The farther the edge is pushed, the farther and faster away we get from what's behind us.

I think this is the two ways the market share for Macs is gained:
1. Windows users buy an iDevice, then another iDevice, then another iDevice... Then they buy a Mac.
2. Hardcore Mac users (like myself) have children and because of the heavy Mac influence from the start, they turn out to like and use Macs. Thats what happened with me. I grew up with all Macs and no Windows:D
You left out another important source of influence, and that's the school systems. Smart school systems usually buy Macs for the classrooms because they are much lower cost to maintain.
By maintain, I'm speaking of the time it costs to add software, upgrade programs, add perephrials, hook up networks, and all the things you don't need a staff of geeks to just keep the computers doing what you bought them for.
So, kids in all grades and into college get to use Macs a lot and love them.
IBM discovered the power of the classroom back in the 1950s. By working hard to get typing classes switched over to Selectric typewriters they created a generation of users more at home on an IMB machine than on a Royal...the market leader at the time. It almost killed Royal.

All the stores (Walmart,Target, Best Buy) in Minot ND have Good stock of iPad 2's 3+ of each model in most cases and it has been that way for a week or 2 now.
Here in the DC area, availability has been come and go...
Saw a 16GB wifi yesterday before we headed out at Target, a few hours later... gone...
Later that night another popped up at the same Target... was too late for us to go over... not that my better half was willing to jump for it.
Was "schooled" yet again... When the iPad 2 was close to being announced; I mentioned to a group of friends that I might sell my better half my iPad - I was "taught" that as this point there is NO SELLING of old "tech".
The next lesson was over the iPad 2; they are getting to be true Apple fans.... after our getting dual MBA's together (me the 13 inch, them the 10") they want the joy of opening a new box. LOL
Hoping that they might be happy if I upgrade - though they seem set on just the wow factor of a new Apple product. I have created a monster I think. LOL

Led Zepplin has never appeared on iTunes. However, Radio Head was on for a short time, but everyone who like Radio Head has already bought their one good album, The Bends.

Sometimes I wonder what Apple hires those smart people for, if it's just the morons running their daily business.

Anyone notice that you can configure a Mac Mini with a 160 GB hard drive. They're 2.5" aren't they? So that suggests 160 GB will be an option in Apple notebooks soon.
I guess that's not really an unexpected move. I only hope that we get a real 2nd Gen MBP with goodies that have developed since the first (rushed out?) attempt. I'd like one right now, but the longer we have to wait, the more optimistic I get.
Things I'd like in a 15" MBP: Easy-change drive/RAM, faster superdrive, FW800, Macbook-style latch & keyboard.

an iMac with touchscreen ...hmmm where did i see that before
aah i know in the past
the iMac with touchscreen existed a long time ago
http://www.elotouch.com/Products/Discontinued/Computers/aioimac0112.asp
and never really took of because of the obvious reasons ... limited practicality , its alright for selecting a mp3 in itunes or so , but not really for much more and every day cleaning the monitor is a nuisance seen the ipad in a apple store horrible full with fingerprints, cleaning a small ipad every day is worth enough, but cleaning a 22" or bigger screen no chance , maybe for some stores or some offices ...but as a desktop at home naaaaa:eek:
if you cant handle mouse and keyboard even a touchscreen wont help you

It's a shame that these $50.00 chinese 1GB and $70.00 2GB MP4 players with the Samsung chip have MP3 playback - Video - FM Radio - eBook Reader - Photo Viewer - Voice & FM Recorder, yet the Nano at three times the price does not!
The Nano with these features, plus iTMS, will withstand anything coming from Sandisk, MS, Creative, or the cheap Chinese imports.Yes, because at the moment the competition is killing the iPods... oh, wait...
Seriously: Why should you cram all that s*** into the iPods. Leave them be, and sell all those other things as optional accessories... I don't want a radio, video and voice recorder, so why should I have to pay for all that...?

The hardcore Apple fans boys are coming out of the woods today. Criticizing the developer, Facebook, everything but Apple's ridiculous App Store policies.
I just want to know why an established global business like Facebook, can't get permission to push through bug fixes without waiting two weeks for approval? It's freaking ridiculous, and there is an apparent pattern where an app is approved without problems and updates are delayed for weeks on end.
I've been put out by Apple's stupid approval policy on two apps I paid for. Waiting weeks at a time for crucial bug fixes to get pushed into the app store. Knowing the developer has fixed the issue but I'm stuck with an app I paid for that doesn't work properly.
I love Apple's products but they need to put in some work to make the App Store approval process better. Either more training and reviewers, or create some programs where established companies with a proven track record can get updates out there quickly.

Thinkpads are built incredibly well.
I know what you're saying though, MOST windows laptops are crap.
This... my T410 kills.
My Dell 1525 is what it is... a cheap laptop that has actually held up very well. Surprised me even. I expected a year to a year and a half tops out of it. Short of the track pad issue that Dell promptly replaced, it still looks brand new.
