Khandi Alexander is a New York born dancer, choreographer and film and television actress who now lives in Los Angeles. She is well known for her starring roles in the mini-series The Corner and the series NewsRadio and ER. She has guest-starred in Law & Order: SVU, NYPD Blue and La Femme Nikita.
She also appeared First Born, Rain, Dark Blue, There's Something About Mary, Sugar Hill, Menace II Society and Emmett's Mark.
On stage, she appeared on Broadway in Dreamgirls Bob Fosse's Dancin' and Chicago. She also served as choreographer for such productions as the 1992 American Music Awards and Whitney Houston's world tours from 1988 to 1992.
In her role as Alexx Woods on CSI Miami she plays the coroner who is used to close quarters and heavy responsibilities. She worked tireless to ensure that her childhood dream of becoming a doctor became a reality. Somehow she felt tied down by the bureaucratic nature of the "medical business" and after a momentary life crisis, she turned to the New York City Coroner's office for a job.
When the county of Miami-Dade approached her to head up their new state-of-the-art facility, she jumped at the chance to work with Horatio Caine and his highly regarded team. On the show she is famous for speaking to the he dead victims.
