Rosario Dawson: An Exotic Beauty
One look at Rosario Dawson and you are able to tell that she's not your average American. No, the jet-black dark hair, symmetry of the face and exotic brown eyes reveal that there's more to her heritage. Dawson's mother is of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent and her father is of Irish ancestry.
She had a very roof childhood with her family squatted for most of it in abandoned buildings in Manhattan's Lower East Side. She had childhood dreams of becoming a marine biologist.
The 29 year old actress and singer has come a long way since then though. She has become well known in the film/entertainment industry. Her most popular movies include Sin City, Clerks II, He Got Game, Kids, Rent, Men In Black II and Death Proof. She is cast in the Sin City sequel.
Since beginning her career in 1995 (Kids) she has endeavored to play diverse roles in order to maximize her acting ability. She's had roles in violent films, action, comedy, drama, epic, crime and thriller to name a few.
She has worked with Prince on his re-release of 1999 and appears in The Chemical Brothers' video for Out of Control. Dawson is an ardent comic book fan and in 2005 she co-created co-created the comic book miniseries Occult Crimes Taskforce.
2008 has been an extremely active year for Dawson. She has eight projects this year alone: Eagle Eye (action/mystery/thriller) was released last month and cast her alongside Shia LaBoeuf and Michelle Monaghan. She's also a cast member of Gemini Division (Sci-Fi). Killshot (action/drama/thriller) cast her alongside Diane Lane, Mickey Rourke and Thomas Jane - release date 7 November 2008.
She's cast as the lead in The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (animation). This film is in post-production and has no set release date as yet. Seven Pounds (drama) will team her up once again with Will Smith. This film is in post-production phase. Her final film for 2008 is Poor Things.
Wonder Woman where she'll voice Artemis is set for release in February of 200 and Sin City II is slated for 2010. Rose McGowan has been cast in this movie as well along with Mickey Rourke. For sure Dawson is in demand which is a true sign of a dedicated actress who has paid her dues.
She won the American Black Film Festival's Rising Star Award in 2004, the Satellite Award
Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role, Comedy or Musical for Rent in 2005, a Special Jury Prize Dramatic for A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints which was shared with the rest of the cast for Ensemble performance in 2006 and the ShoWest Award for Supporting Actress of the Year in 2007.
Dawson supports many charities and causes including Amnesty International, Parents, Familie and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
She has her own production company called Trybe.
