Carrie-Anne Moss: The Cool Canadian
At age 41, Canadian actress Carrie-Anne Moss will Matrixify your ass! Don't even go there! I am totally allowed to invent my own words with the assumption that any and everyone knows what the hell I mean!
And look, if you want to find out what it means, just find Carrie-Anne and do something to piss her off then come back here and tell me what she did to you. You'll see what I mean! If you didn't know it, Moss was born to do the Matrix movies. She played the role of Liz Teel in a Canadian TV series from back in 1993 long before the Matrix movies were even conceived so the woman knows her matrixifcation stuff.
Now I know for many who will read this that it is very likely that you have not gone out to see all of the Matrix movies. I confess that I haven't. Heck after the first two I'd had enough. You can only stretch a movie so far without losing the essence of it all. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule but they are few and very far in between.
The Matrix trilogy, in a lot of ways is what put Moss on the map. She started out her career as a model and then as is the norm broke into the business via soap opera and other small television appearances. Her debut television role came in the late 1980s while she was working in Spain as a model. She landed a role in Dark Justice. Her debut film role was in 1993 when she was cast in Flashfire.
However her breakthrough role was in 1999 when she was cast as Trinity in the box office hit The Matrix. Other movies that cemented her status in the industry include her role in Memento for which she earned an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress (2002). She also received rave reviews for her performance in Chocolat which cast her with the likes of Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp, and Dame Judi Dench.
Other film credits include The Crew, Red Planet, Suspect Zero, Snow Cake, Mini's First Time, Fido, Disturbia, Normal, Fireflies in the Garden and Pretty/Handsome. She has two upcoming movies in the works - Hanging Out Hooking Up Falling In Love is currently being filmed and Unthinkable is in pre-production phase.
Besides her Spirit Award, she has also won the following awards and have had an additional seven nominations which include a SAG Award for her performance with fellow cast members in Chocolat (Outstanding Performance by the Cast of a Theatrical Motion Picture).
2000 won Empire Award - Best Debut for The Matrix (1999) [Tied with Damien O'Donnell for East Is East (1999)].
2000 won Golden Slate Award - Best Actress in a Leading Role for The Matrix (1999)
2007 won Genie - Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for Snow Cake (2006)
2007 won VFCC Award - Best Actress in a Canadian Film for Fido (2006)
What I admire most about Moss is that she exudes coolness. She's got a calm about her that leads one to believe that she is capable of bringing order and peace to any disturbed occurrence. I think it's a calmness that comes from inner confidence and contentment. She is one of those actresses who has manged to keep an almost perfect balance in her life. She has successfully kept her private life intact and her public/star/celebrity life is one that others could do well to mirror.
